By now, the buzz is growing with Nas's upcoming Lp's title. 'Nigger', has people thinking that Nas is taking it too far with is album names. Last time, let's not forget that a lot of the Hip Hop community was bitter with his release, "Hip Hop Is Dead". But, Fox News reported that people from Def Jam's office, said they could not release an album with such an offensive and/or explicit name.
When MTV probed the Record Label giant, L.A. Reid about Def Jam's concerns, he had this to say; "Really, who'd you hear that from?". "We support everything our artists do, everything!" he added. "We stand firmly behind and beside our artists with pride and with pleasure. Anything Nas wants to do, I completely stand beside him. Nas is prolific, he's prophetic, he's a genius, an amazing artist of respect. So, while I'm not sure exactly all that [the title] entails, I know it's smart, so I stand behind him. That's real."
Well, other artists seem to have his back. This year's BET Hip Hop Awards, big winner, Common had this to say:
"I love Nas," he continued, "Nas is always bringing something new, bringing something for us to think about. He's one of the best ever. If it wasn't for Nas, a lot of cats, including myself, wouldn't be rhyming the way they do. So I mean, I know [the title] is something behind what he's doing, he's making statements. That's something we need in hip-hop. Last Poets did it, Gil Scott-Heron did it, Marvin Gaye did it. We gotta keep making statements."
When 50 was asked what he thought, at a video shoot, he had this to say:
"Nas sucks," 50 said "It's nonsense, man. That's a stupid name. It doesn't make sense. Why would you title it that?"
Well, Nas spoke with MTV News and stated, "I wanna make the word easy on mutha----as' ears,". Nas continued, "You see how white boys ain't mad at 'cracker' 'cause it don't have the same [sting] as 'nigger'? I want 'nigger' to have less meaning [than] 'cracker.'"
Listen, I respect God's Son. I am a firm believer that words only have the power you give them. But, I do understand the sensitivity that older people who have experienced more racism, have.
