Gatti, who was found dead on July 11th, 2009 by his wife Amanda Rodrigues in a flat they rented for the second honey moon. Initially as her purse straps were covered in his blood, she was charged with his murder. However after further investigation, Brazilian authorities have deemed his death a suicide, and Rodrigues, 23 was released.
A spokesperson for the police said: "The police inquiry concluded that he committed suicide using the strap of a rucksack on a staircase in the early hours of the morning,"
Witnesses the night before his death did mention he was drunk and that he had struck his wife, whom he had just reconciled with, making her fall to the ground. Perhaps t 37 year old was suffering from some sort of depression.
