It was during my career at SonyBMG that I first learned that until, "Here I Stand", Usher had been the only artists to consistently out sell his previous albums sales. But, as we all know, the pandemonium died down from "Confessions" release in 2004; mostly because of his relationship with Tameka Foster. And although his Mom really didn't deserve the boot over her distaste for Foster, Benny Medina, who has now been fired by Usher, shouldn't have got the boot either.
Yes, Usher fans Mama Usher is back in the manager's chair after being fired on Mother's Day for her beef with the beast Tameka. They released the statement that:
"Usher has dissolved his management arrangement with Benny Medina and has re-engaged Jonnetta Patton as his manager."
But, as happy as I am for Jonnetta, I must make the point that it may not be Benny's fault. First and foremost, the industry is going through hard times. Secondly, Confessions carried into 2006 and 2007, as did his personal life. He was at a point where his advisors were telling him to wait for a comeback. He needed to let the paparazzi die down and start doing the Lil' Wayne techinque, by getting on all the remixes and guest spots possible, so that people would be talking about his music again; and not his love life. Then, he comes back with an alright single, not spectacular, not different; confessions was different. But, Benny Medina did also make his own statement sighting:
"With an artist like Usher, the bar is set really high. Whether it was management, marketing or the music, we achieved a number one single and a number one album. It is a completely new day and time in music now. In four years, his audience, demographic, and musical direction has changed. Records like Lil Wayne’s ‘Lollipop’ are the type of phenomena that ‘Yeah’ was in 2004."
