ROY JONES ADMITS HE LET'S HIS DOGS FIGHT

If he'd done so in the last few months of '07, he might know that ex-NFL quarterback became the biggest athlete in history to blow his career and freedom because of illegal dogfighting.

Jones, however, recently told media that he has regularly engaged in the practice at his Florida home: "I just let my dogs get down five, 10 minutes, 15 minutes. Maybe like the longest I let them go was a half-hour, but I never let them fight to the death 'cause I can't take that."

Neither can animal authorities.

John Goodwin, the Humane Society's deputy manager of animal fighting issues, says it's a felony in Florida to let dogs fight. Goodwin says Jones, who's training for a Jan. 19 fight against Felix Trinidad, may have invited a criminal investigation.

"If he's admitting that he's fighting his dogs, then they need to go down there with a search warrant and confiscate those dogs," Goodwin adds. Maybe Roy should stick to trash-talking with his opponents in the ring.
