
Rapper 50 Cent became the most high profile artist to perform in Kosovo when he took stage at a Pristina (Kosovo’s largest city) soccer stadium in front of 25,000 earlier this week. According to Reuters, people questioned whether he would show due to the potential of politically-motivated violence in the area. “I haven’t missed a show date in my career,” 50 told Reuters. He said he’s been all too familiar with idea of violence. “I’ve been to Iraq. I performed for the soldiers. I’ve been to Israel. I’ve been to Beirut. They actually bombed the week after I left. …I won’t get a chance to see the entire world, unless I go everywhere." At least two of Kosovo’s music festivals, Polifest and Showfest, include hip-hop.
